Tourism

Tourism North Manitoba is a regional tourism association whose goal is to promote Northern Manitoba as a priority tourist destination.  Community Futures North Central Development is contracted to coordinate Tourism North efforts.

Tourism North's current projects include:

WINTER TOURISM DEVELOPMENT:
Tourism North identified an opportunity in increased winter tourism due to guaranteed snow, a good system of groomed, insured snowmobile trails, ice covered lakes (winter roads, ice fishing derbies, etc) and a range of winter festivals that are currently targeted at the local community but could attract visitors.
Work has included to date: two snowmobile trail extensions (2014/2015), research associated with developing the north as a winter tourism destination, message development, packaging, promotion, itinerary development, tour development and scouting a trail correction to fully connect northern to southern Manitoba.
Further anticipated work (to the end of 2015/2016) includes developing a new trip package, experiential tourism training and enhanced visitor information services (ie: presence on social media, new snowmobile trail maps and joint promotion of trails, festivals.
Special project funding has been provided by the Tourism Secretariat to deliver these projects.

NORTHERN MB REGIONAL VISITOR GUIDE 2015/2016:
Tourism North aims to produce a regional visitor guide on an annual basis and to date has produced five (2009, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015/2016).  The guides have been used as a tool to market northern Manitoba on a local and international level.  The 2014 guide was revamped to align more closely with the Manitoba: Canada's Heart Beats brand and to be an overall more user friendly publication. The current guide can be picked up at all Travel MB Visitors Centres across the province, at Tourism North partner offices, throughout the north at locations a visitor may frequent (ie: airport, bus stations, hotels, etc) and is available for download directly from the Tourism North website - www.visitnorthernmanitoba.ca.  Work is currently underway on the 2016/2017 guide.
